These Funky Towels Have No Rhythm | 3 Easy Steps to Freshen Up your Towels
Have you ever noticed that after awhile some towels can get a
funky smell that seems impossible to get rid of?
I have two towels, practically new, that I was just about to throw out after trying everything to get rid of a slight funky smell in them. Since we have a high efficiency washer I thought even though my washer didn't smell that it might have something to do with the problem. I bought the HE cleaners and the machine was now fresh and clean but it didn't help my towel problem. So I searched the internet and read that after some time, towels can get a buildup which creates an unpleasant odour.
Okay, good to know.
But these towels are new! It didn't make sense. We did have them with us one day at the beach and were left damp, with lake water in them, for a few hours. But I know we washed everything when we got home that day, surely being damp for a few hours couldn't cause this.
Whatever the reason - I really, really....really didn't want to throw them out.
Fortunately, I found a solution that worked and didn't require bleach.
What I used:
1 cup of white vinegar
1 cup of baking soda
1 regular amount of detergent
What I did:
Step 1 - Washed the towels in hot water with 1 cup of vinegar (no soap) on the short cycle.
Step 2 - Washed the towels, again in hot water, with 1 cup of baking soda (no soap) also on a short cycle.
Step 3 - Put the towels through a regular cycle in hot water using my regular detergent.
This totally worked. All the towels smell great. They seem extra soft too.
I'm not sure if this will work every time and for every problem or odour but it's worth a shot before heading off to the store to buy more!
