For the past few years I have made these Reindeer Gingerbread Cookies and they have definitely become a Christmas favourite.

How to decorate gingerbread reindeer cookies for Christmas Holidays

You get the reindeer head shape by taking a gingerbread man cookie and turning it upside-down.

Then it's all icing!

First make the shape of the head with light brown royal icing. I start with a "T" shape and then spread the icing out. I use a toothpick to pull the edge of the ears to a point.

Then I add the antlers, ear detail and nose with royal icing in a slightly darker brown.
I added red candy on some of them for their noses.

Then a couple of dark brown dots for eyes and a sweep of the same icing for a mouth.

These are fun and festive and easily made with items around your house. I love to decorate with royal icing using the back of a small spoon and a toothpick or two!

For royal icing I start with a basic consistency and thicken or thin with small amounts of water to adjust to how I like it.

I start with:

4 cups icing sugar
3 tablespoons meringue powder
a teaspoon of vanilla
and 9 tablespoons water.

I add these to my Kitchen Aid Mixer and beat on low to combine, then on high for 6-7 minutes.
The royal icing is then ready to colour and decorate with!
